Annie is in her bunk when a tick crawls into her ear.

TICK
Pssst. Hey! Kid!

ANNIE
(groggy)
Huh? What? Who’s there?

TICK
Shhhhh don’t wake up your bunk mates. Listen, I’m a tick, and I crawled into your ear because I wanna talk to you.

ANNIE
What? A tick?

TICK
Yes I’m a tick, but I prefer to go by the human name I’ve chosen: Barthus.

ANNIE
Are you gonna…bite me and…

TICK
No no no no! I’m here because I want you to turn me into a human! Soo badly. I overheard you telling the other kids today that you had magic powers, so you can turn me, right?

ANNIE
Oh…um…sorry, but no. I don’t actually have magic powers.

TICK
…What do you mean?

ANNIE
Uh, kids just like, say that kind of stuff to each other sometimes. I guess I said it for attention?
